Frequently Asked Questions
When does the course start and finish?
The course starts now and never ends! It is a completely self-paced online course - you decide when you start and when you finish.
Do I need Norgate Premium Data to take this course?
All of the systems have been back-test using data from Norgate Premium going back to 2000. Subscription to Norgate for US stock data is beneficial but not necessarily required as we do go through the rules in detail and provide code for non-Norgate users.
Do I need Amibroker to take this course?
A registered version of Amibroker and experience with the platform is beneficial although not compulsory. You do not need Amibroker to take this course as each trading system is explained in detail.
Do the trading systems account for survivorship-bias?
Yes, the data we use (Norgate Premium Alpha Database) includes delisted securities and is adjusted for capital events and cash dividends. You can read more about the data we use at the Norgate Premium Data website.
How long do I have access to the course?
How does lifetime access sound? After enrolling, you have unlimited access to this course for as long as you like - across any and all devices you own.
I trade forex, will I find this useful?
Our research is primarily focussed on US equities. This is because we feel that the best opportunities are to be found in this area. We believe that beginner traders can save themselves a lot of money by avoiding the forex markets at first since these markets are highly efficient.
What if I am unhappy with the course?
I am a day trader, will I find this useful?
We prefer not to watch charts all day so most of our research is based on daily timeframes and we use end-of-day historical data to back-test strategies. This means we can make our trading decisions any time that the market is closed and this gives us the freedom to do what we like for the rest of the day. Having said that, our fastest trading strategy has a holding period of one day and it is possible to implement some strategies on shorter timeframes.
What about UK/Australian/European/Asian stocks?
As a general rule we believe that our research can applied to other developed stock markets and we have had some success doing so. However, we prefer to focus on US stocks because they are more liquid and we have considerable experience trading these markets. Historical data for US companies is also cleaner and goes back further so it’s more useful for analysis.
What trading systems are included?
There are a mix of trading systems. The shortest has a holding period of one day and the longest trades trends on weekly timeframes. Most of the systems trade stocks belonging to the S&P 1500 or Russell 3000. Please see the promo video and curriculum outline for more details.
Are these trading systems guaranteed to make money?
The trading systems on this course have been through out-of-sample testing for validation purposes and the code has been double checked for mistakes by an independent expert with 12 years Amibroker experience. However, no trading strategy is guaranteed to make money as the future is never known. Anyone who claims otherwise is withholding the truth. The systems are best thought of as useful ideas for further research. They can be adapted and modified as you wish.
Will I learn about Amibroker on this course?
We have provided a detailed back-test template and you may pick up some tips along the way. However, the course is not principally designed to be a learning guide for using Amibroker. The focus is on the trading system ideas.
